🌬️The Inspiration — The Ocean's Breath & The Digital Skeleton
The Ocean's Breath & Frozen Ripples 🌊
Capturing the Ocean's Surface (The Form) The birth of the Ceto series stems from a deep fascination with the unpredictable beauty of the ocean's surface. "Ceto," named after the primordial Greek goddess of the sea, attempts to capture the moment the ocean breathes—the natural rhythm generated by the breeze on the water and the way light dances on the undulating surface. As our design intent states, it aims to record "the variation and rippling of the surface of the ocean."
The Sketches: Embracing Imperfection ✏️
To express the freedom of water, Ceto's design language completely abandons the rigid straight lines of industrialization, pursuing a natural "Organic Form" instead.
- Anti-Linear Sketches: In the initial design sketches, we barely used a ruler. All the lines were flowing and irregular, aiming to mimic the natural curve of rising and falling waves. Our biggest challenge was: How do we use a solid material to express liquid freedom?
- Unique Texture: We dedicated ourselves to creating a unique texture on the glass surface. It is not mechanical repetition but, like the waves of every sea, possesses its own unique pattern. This design ensures that every single lamp reflects a one-of-a-kind pattern of light and shadow.
3D Modeling: The Digital Skeleton for Flow 💻
After sketching the flowing outlines filled with artistic sense on paper, we handed the baton to the rational 3D modeling program, translating these organic concepts into manufacturable physical structures.
- Core Connection: This stage was crucial for perfecting the precise connection between the metal base and the irregular glass shade. The metal base is not only the carrier of the light source but also the core hub supporting this piece of "solidified water."
- Digital Calibration: The challenge lay in the fact that every piece of glass about to be born is a unique organic body. By simulating the natural undulations and thickness variations of glass in the software, we precisely calibrated the structure of the metal chassis and the layout of the support points.
- Optimized Structure: We optimized the physical structure to ensure the metal base could stably hold the glass artworks of various shapes and weights while concealing itself without destroying the overall transparency. This precision design guarantees that the final product possesses industrial-grade stability while perfectly preserving the flowing beauty of a handcrafted sculpture.
Craftsmanship & Installation — From Fire to Form 🔥
Placing a seemingly flowing form stably on your wall requires a profound understanding of material properties and exquisite craftsmanship. We are committed to making this "delivery" a perfect blend of artistic sense and practicality, offering personalized choices.
Forms Forged in Fire: Glass Firing & Variations, This is the foundation for Ceto's mesmerizing light and shadow. Each Ceto shade is created through a high-temperature glass firing process. At extremely high temperatures, hard raw glass turns into a soft melt, then cools and sets. This process is a precise capture of the "sense of flow," solidifying the natural texture like rippling water.
To meet different spatial emotional needs, we offer three distinct glass options based on this craft:
- Clear Glass: Pure and transparent, it maximally projects clear, agile water ripple light and shadows, bringing the strongest sense of water immersion.
- Smoked Glass: Deep and charming, it comes with a tipsy vintage filter. Light passing through it becomes hazy and ambiguous, suitable for creating an intimate atmosphere.
- White Glass: Soft as jade, light becomes uniform and quiet through diffuse reflection, like the thin mist rising from the sea in the early morning, bringing ultimate gentleness.
The Reliable Anchor: Metal Fabrication & Finishes, To support this piece of "solidified water," we need a solid and reliable support. The production of the metal base focuses on stability and detail polishing. We selected substantial metal materials, processed with precision, to ensure it can support the glass shade for a long time.
The base also offers two classic metal finishes as the keynote of the space:
- Gold: Luxurious and warm, like coastal rocks illuminated by the sunset, adding a touch of nobility and warmth to the space.
- Black: Low-key and modern, like a submerged reef in the deep sea, calm and powerful, setting off the transparency of the glass in the most minimalist way.
The Final Ritual: Easy & Gentle Installation, Considering the transparent nature of glass and the stable structure of the metal base, Ceto's final installation step is designed to be intuitive and convenient. The installation process is actually the final meeting of two materials: after securely mounting the metal base carrying the light source to the wall, the glass shade is gently covered over it. We focus on the rational design of the connection structure, ensuring that users can feel the fit between the components during installation. When the light turns on, the solid metal recedes, leaving only flowing light and shadow dancing on the wall.
