Is this lamp suitable for a bedroom nightstand?

Yes. The 7.9-inch base fits most nightstands. The 59-inch cord reaches most bedside outlets. Pair with a warm white (2700K) bulb for comfortable reading light.

Will the brass base tarnish or discolor?

Antique copper brass naturally patinas over time. This is normal aging. Polish with a soft cloth if you prefer to maintain the original shine.
