Hand-woven bamboo, wrapped around a soft fabric inner shade — a pendant of natural materials, quietly diffusing the light.
The Ay Illuminate Pendant Light pairs an open bamboo lattice with a fabric inner shade nested inside. The bamboo cage casts patterned shadows across walls and ceiling; the fabric shade softens the bulb's light into a warm, even glow. Choose the inner shade from four material options — cotton cloth or gauze, in white or black — to tune the light's character. A single E26/E27 bulb (sold separately) sits at the centre. Suited to dining rooms, hallways, restaurants, lounges, and any interior where natural texture matters more than polish.

Cotton cloth vs gauze: the cotton cloth is densely woven and gives a softer, more evenly diffused glow — the room reads warmer overall. The gauze is more open-weave, so the bulb's light passes through more directly — the bamboo lattice casts sharper patterned shadows, and the pendant itself feels lighter, airier.

Three Pillars
Hand-Woven Bamboo Cage
An open bamboo lattice, woven by hand into a sculptural outer cage. The weave casts patterned shadows across walls and ceiling whenever the pendant is lit — half lamp, half quietly cast pattern.
Fabric Inner Shade
Inside the bamboo cage, a soft fabric shade diffuses the bulb's light. Four options to choose from: cotton cloth (densely woven, softer diffusion) or gauze (open weave, airier glow), in white or black.
Metal Hardware
A precision metal armature suspends the bamboo cage and anchors the ceiling rose. Finished to read as a single, considered object alongside the bamboo and the fabric shade inside.

Indoor use only. The Ay Illuminate pendant is IP20-rated for dry interior environments — not suitable for bathrooms, wet rooms, saunas, or any outdoor installation. Bamboo and fabric are natural materials and should be kept away from direct moisture and steam.

Installation
Setup Notes
- Hardwired ceiling installation — a licensed electrician is recommended for safe mounting, wiring, and grounding.
- Flat ceilings only. The ceiling rose requires a level mounting plane — sloped or vaulted ceilings are not compatible without a specialised adapter (not included).
- The standard cable length is 150 cm (59″). Custom drops can be specified when ordering — recommended for stairwells, double-height rooms, or low-ceiling installations.
- Install one E26 or E27 base bulb (sold separately). A warm white LED (2700K–3000K, 5–10 W) gives the softest, most flattering glow through the fabric inner shade and keeps heat output low on the natural materials.
- For dimming, pair a dimmable LED bulb with a TRIAC-compatible dimmer switch on the wall circuit.
- The pendant supports full-range AC 110–240V — no transformer or step-down required for any of the certified regions.
- Handle the bamboo cage gently during installation. Avoid pressing or forcing the weave — it's hand-tied and rigid enough for daily use, but not designed to be squeezed.
- Keep the pendant away from direct heat sources (radiators, vents, hot lights) and high-steam environments. Bamboo and fabric are natural and respond to humidity and heat over time.

Which material option should I choose?
There are four options. White cotton cloth is the brightest, most evenly diffused — best for dining tables, kitchens, and living rooms where you want functional ambient light. White gauze is similar but more airy, letting more of the bamboo lattice pattern read on the walls. Black cotton cloth concentrates the light into a focused downward pool — good for restaurant tables and intimate dining. Black gauze sits between, with a softer contrast and visible weave patterning.
What's the difference between cotton cloth and gauze?
Cotton cloth is densely woven and opaque — the bulb's glow is diffused softly and evenly, and the pendant reads warmer overall. Gauze is open-weave and slightly translucent — more of the bulb's direct light passes through, the bamboo lattice casts sharper patterned shadows, and the pendant itself feels lighter and airier. Cotton is the more conventional "shaded lamp" feel; gauze is the more atmospheric, pattern-driven option.
Will the bamboo darken or fade over time?
Bamboo is a natural material and will gently shift in tone over years of indoor exposure — typically deepening slightly into a warmer honey colour. Direct sunlight will accelerate this, so we recommend installing away from south-facing windows for the most consistent appearance.
Are bulbs included?
No. The pendant takes a standard E26 or E27 base bulb (one bulb), sold separately. We recommend a warm white dimmable LED (2700K–3000K, 5–10 W) for the softest glow through the fabric shade and the lowest heat output on the natural materials.
Is the lamp dimmable?
Yes. The pendant works with standard household switches and is compatible with dimmers. Install a dimmable LED bulb and pair it with a TRIAC-compatible dimmer switch (e.g. Lutron Skylark, Leviton Decora). The pendant itself does not have a built-in dimmer.
Can I request a longer or shorter cable?
Yes. The standard cable is 150 cm (59″), but custom lengths are available on request — ideal for stairwells, atria, double-height rooms, or low-ceiling installations. Please specify your preferred drop length when placing your order.
Can I install it on a sloped ceiling?
No. The pendant is designed for flat ceilings only. The ceiling rose requires a level mounting surface. For sloped installations, a specialised adapter would be required and is not included.
Can I install it in a bathroom or outdoors?
No. The pendant is IP20-rated for indoor use only — not suitable for bathrooms, wet rooms, saunas, covered porches, or any outdoor environment. Bamboo and fabric are particularly sensitive to moisture and humidity.
Does it work on both 110V and 220V circuits?
Yes. The pendant accepts full-range AC 110–240V and is certified for North America, Europe, Australia, and the Middle East — no additional transformer or step-down required. Pair it with a bulb rated for your local voltage.
How do I clean the bamboo and fabric?
With the power off and the bulb cool, dust the bamboo cage gently with a soft dry brush or a feather duster — a long-bristled paintbrush works well for reaching between the weave. Dust the fabric inner shade with a microfibre cloth or a soft vacuum brush attachment. Avoid water, solvents, and chemical sprays on both materials — they can stain bamboo and watermark fabric.
