The Rhodes Fluted Rod Wall Sconce: why I can’t stop thinking about it

Antique brass, a matte black shade, and a warm pool of light exactly where you want it.

If there’s one decorating rule I’ll always stand by, it’s this: lighting changes everything. When a room feels a little flat, or you just want to turn up the cozy factor, a great wall sconce is one of the easiest ways to transform the entire space.

Lately, I can’t stop thinking about the Rhodes Fluted Rod Wall Sconce from Rayonshine, and I have to share why I think it’s such a winner.

The look: classic black & antique brass

It’s hard to go wrong with antique brass and matte black. The brass has a softly aged finish that feels warm and lived-in, while the sleek black cone shade keeps the look grounded and modern. Whether your home leans Mid-Century Modern, transitional, or a little eclectic, this fixture slips right in.

It’s all in the details (that fluted rod!)

My favorite part of this light is the tall, fluted brass stem. The ribbed texture is a subtle touch, but it makes the whole fixture feel high-end and architectural, almost like jewelry for your walls. It also draws the eye upward, a simple trick that can make your ceilings feel a bit taller.

At nearly 16 inches tall, it’s a substantial piece with real presence, yet the slim profile keeps it from ever feeling heavy or bulky.

A warm, glare-free glow

The solid metal cone shade directs all of the light downward, so you won’t get harsh glare in your eyes. Instead, you get a warm, moody pool of light exactly where you need it. That makes it as practical for reading as it is pretty to look at.

Where to hang a black and brass wall sconce

I can picture this light in so many spots, but here’s where I think it really shines:

  • Pair of Rhodes wall sconces flanking an ornate gilded mirror above a marble powder room vanity

Over a powder room vanity. Frame your mirror with a pair and the whole bathroom instantly feels more polished. The light lands right where you need it for getting ready, and the brass looks beautiful next to classic fixtures and a moody painted wall.

  • Two Rhodes wall sconces on either side of a landscape painting above an entryway console table

In the entryway. Hang one on each side of a mirror or a favorite piece of art above your console table. It creates a warm, welcoming first impression the moment you walk through the door.

  • Rhodes wall sconce lit above a wooden cabinet beside the front door in a hallway with framed art

By the front door or down a hallway. A single sconce above a cabinet or a gallery wall adds a little drama and interest to a wall that feels empty, and gives you a soft glow to come home to.

Quick placement note: this fixture is rated for dry indoor locations only. In a bathroom, keep it to powder rooms or vanity walls well away from the shower and tub, and skip it in steamy, damp spaces.

A few styling tips

  • Choose a warm bulb. A 2700K bulb gives you that soft, inviting glow that pairs beautifully with the aged brass.

  • Think in pairs. Sconces look most intentional when they frame something, like a bed, a mirror, or a piece of art.

  • Call in a pro. Since this is a hardwired fixture, have a licensed electrician handle the installation for a clean, safe result.

The verdict

If you want lighting that feels curated, intentional, and far more expensive than it is, the Rhodes Sconce is worth it. At $242, the level of detail is hard to beat. Add a warm bulb, get it installed, and enjoy your beautifully moody new corner.
