Floor Lamp · Stacked Wood Pavilion · 1933
01 Overview Light Through The Trees

A vertical pavilion of stacked wood-grain elements — light filters horizontally through the layers, recreating the dappled glow of leaves overhead.

Taliesin is the floor-standing realisation of a singular architectural idea: light should not pour from a single point but should filter through structure — the way it does through a forest canopy. A series of shallow, square wood-grain shelves stack along a slender vertical column, each set with a deliberate gap above and below so that a narrow band of warm light escapes between every pair of shelves. From every viewing angle the rhythm of light-and-shadow shifts, giving the piece a constantly changing, almost living presence — a forest, translated into vertical architecture. Standing 207 cm (81.5″) tall, Taliesin is sized for double-height rooms, stairwells, gallery corners, and any interior where a single piece is asked to anchor a tall vertical space.

A Modernist Classic · Taliesin Studio · 1933

A faithful representation of the original lamp first designed in 1933 at Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin studio in Spring Green, Wisconsin — drawing from his lifelong fascination with how sunlight and moonlight filter through leaves and branches above the prairie.

Stacked horizontal shelves · matched grain
A single, considered combination. Both the vertical column and the horizontal stacked shelves share the same warm walnut wood-grain finish, applied to a metal substrate via water-transfer printing. The unified tone allows Taliesin to read as a single coherent architectural object — rather than a column with applied ornament — preserving the integrity of the original 1933 vision.

Verify Your Ceiling Height

Taliesin stands 207 cm (81.5") tall. We recommend a minimum ceiling height of 240 cm (94.5") for proper architectural breathing room above the top shelf. Ceilings of 250 cm or higher give a more comfortable proportion; 280 cm+ achieves a true gallery-style presentation. In rooms below 220 cm, the lamp will dominate the vertical space and feel cramped.

04 Materials & Craft Three Pillars
Stacked Pavilion Frame
Shallow horizontal shelves layered up the vertical column with precise spacing — the silhouette references the cantilevered Prairie Style architecture of the Wisconsin studio that gave the lamp its name. Each shelf is the same dimension; only the gap between them carries the light.
Water-Transfer Wood Grain
A walnut-tone wood-grain pattern is transferred to the metal substrate through a precision film process. The result is the warmth and visual texture of timber on a structurally rigid metal frame — durable, dimensionally stable, and resistant to warping, which solid wood at this height would not be over time.
G9 Bi-Pin LED · Mains Voltage
A G9 socket sits at the heart of the column, hidden behind the stacked structure. The compact bi-pin bulb directs warm light outward through the gaps between shelves, producing the lamp's characteristic horizontal banding. Use mains-voltage AC 110–240V G9 bulbs only — not 12V variants.

Important — buy the right G9 bulb. Two types of G9 bulbs exist on the market: mains-voltage (AC 110–240V) for direct wall-outlet use, and low-voltage (12V) for transformer-based fixtures. Taliesin requires the mains-voltage version only. A 12V bulb installed in this lamp will burn out instantly. Confirm the bulb label reads "AC 110–240V" or "mains voltage" before buying.

07 Installation Setup Notes
  • Plug-in operation — no electrician required. Plug directly into a standard wall outlet rated for AC 110–240V.
  • Watch the product video for visual reference of the assembled silhouette and lit appearance.
  • Unbox carefully — Taliesin is tall and slender. Two people are recommended for unpacking and positioning, both to handle the height safely and to avoid scuffing the wood-grain finish.
  • Plan placement before unboxing. Confirm your ceiling height is at least 240 cm (94.5") for proper visual breathing room, and that the floor base sits on a level, stable surface — Taliesin's weight is concentrated in the lower column, but the tall profile makes a level base essential.
  • Source the correct G9 bulb. The fixture takes one G9 bi-pin bulb, mains-voltage AC 110–240V version — confirm the bulb label reads "AC 110–240V" or "mains voltage", NOT "12V". We recommend warm white LED G9 bulbs (2700K–3000K, 2–4 W) for the softest "filtered light" effect through the stacked shelves.
  • Route the 150 cm cable along the baseboard or behind nearby furniture. The in-line switch sits roughly halfway down the cord for easy reach without bending to the floor.
  • Handle the wood-grain shelves with clean, dry hands during initial setup. The water-transfer surface is durable, but fingerprints can show on the freshly-finished shelves until the first cleaning.
08 Questions Frequently Asked
What does the name "Taliesin" mean?
Taliesin is the name Frank Lloyd Wright gave to his home and studio complex in Spring Green, Wisconsin. The word is Welsh, meaning "Shining Brow" — a reference to a hilltop ridge. Wright designed this stacked-pavilion floor lamp at the Taliesin studio in 1933, drawing on the dappled forest light he observed daily on the property. The lamp inherits the name as a tribute to the studio where it was conceived.
Is this a Frank Lloyd Wright original or licensed reproduction?
Neither. This is a faithful representation of the original 1933 Taliesin Floor Lamp design, offered as an interpretation of the form for buyers who admire the design language. Original-edition pieces and Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation-licensed reproductions are produced under separate arrangements at significantly higher price points.
What kind of bulb should I use? (Important — read this before ordering)
A G9 bi-pin LED bulb, mains-voltage AC 110–240V version. This is the most common buyer mistake — two types of G9 bulbs exist: mains-voltage (for direct wall-outlet fixtures like Taliesin) and 12V (for transformer-based recessed lighting). A 12V G9 bulb will burn out instantly in this lamp. Confirm the bulb label reads "AC 110–240V" or "mains voltage" before buying. We recommend warm white LEDs (2700K–3000K, 2–4 W) for the most evocative filtered-light effect.
What ceiling height does Taliesin need?
Taliesin is 207 cm (81.5") tall. We recommend a minimum ceiling height of 240 cm (94.5") for proper architectural breathing room above the top shelf — that's roughly 33 cm clearance, adequate but tight. 250 cm+ ceilings give a more comfortable proportion; 280 cm+ achieves a true gallery-style presentation. In rooms below 220 cm, the lamp will dominate and feel cramped — this is not the right piece for a low-ceilinged room.
Is it real wood?
No. Taliesin uses a water-transfer wood-grain finish applied to a metal frame — not solid timber. This is a deliberate engineering choice, not a cost compromise. Real wood at 207 cm height will warp, twist, or split over time as humidity changes; the metal substrate stays dimensionally stable for decades. The finish gives you the visual warmth of walnut with the structural integrity of metal.
Why use water-transfer wood-grain instead of real wood?
Three reasons. Dimensional stability — solid wood at this height warps, twists, or splits over time as humidity changes. Weight and shipping — a metal frame keeps the lamp lighter and easier to transport without damage. Durability — water-transfer wood-grain on metal resists fingerprint marks, minor knocks, and the small daily impacts that solid wood would show as scratches. The visual warmth of walnut is preserved without the structural compromises of solid timber at this scale.
Where does Taliesin work best?
Tall vertical spaces — double-height rooms, stairwell landings, gallery corners, large entryways, lofts, and architectural living rooms. The lamp is best read from a viewing distance of 2–4 metres, with enough surrounding wall or floor space to let the silhouette stand out. It is not well-suited to small bedrooms, low-ceilinged hallways, or any space where the 207 cm height would feel constrained.
Is Taliesin dimmable?
The fixture itself uses an in-line on/off switch on the cord — no dimmer is built in. To dim Taliesin, plug it into a wall outlet controlled by a TRIAC dimmer switch and use a TRIAC-compatible dimmable G9 LED bulb (mains-voltage). Dimming behaviour depends on the bulb and dimmer combination, not the fixture itself. A dimmed Taliesin produces particularly beautiful filtered light through the stacked shelves at low output — well worth the dimmer investment.
Can I use it on both 110V and 220V circuits?
Yes. Taliesin supports full-range AC 110–240V and is certified for use in North America, Europe, Australia, and the Middle East. Just ensure the G9 bulb you purchase is rated for your local voltage — and is mains-voltage, not 12V.
Can I install it in a bathroom or outdoors?
No. Taliesin is rated IP20 for dry indoor use only — not suitable for bathrooms, wet rooms, covered porches, or any outdoor environment. The water-transfer wood-grain finish is also not designed to withstand humidity or direct moisture.
How heavy is it? Will it tip?
Taliesin's weight is concentrated in the lower column and base, designed for stability despite the tall profile. On a level, stable floor surface the lamp will not wobble. Avoid placing it on uneven flooring (deep-pile rugs, sloped wood floors), and keep it away from high-traffic walkways where it could be bumped — at 207 cm tall, the height alone makes incidental contact more visible.
How do I clean it?
With the power off and the bulb cool, dust the stacked shelves and column gently with a soft dry microfibre cloth. For more thorough cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth (water only, no solvents or ammonia-based cleaners), and dry immediately. Avoid abrasive sponges, wax-based polishes, and direct application of cleaning sprays — these can damage the wood-grain finish.
