Let's address the holes first, because everyone notices them. You unbox a travertine lamp, run your hand over the base, and find little pits, pores and channels all over it. Your first thought: did this get damaged in shipping?
Nope. Those holes are the stone's autograph. Travertine forms around mineral springs, where water rich in calcium carbonate gives up its carbon dioxide and leaves stone behind, layer by layer. Gas bubbles and bits of plant matter get trapped along the way, and when they're gone, the holes stay. It's the same stone the Romans used to build the Colosseum, so it has a pretty solid résumé.
Below are six travertine table lamps, lined up shortest to tallest. One fits on a bookshelf. One will happily anchor a sofa console. One glows through a ball of solid alabaster. Let's find yours.
Travertine in 60 seconds
Three things worth knowing before you buy
01 / Origin
It's a spring-water stone
Built up slowly by mineral springs, which is why it carries those soft bands of honey, cream and beige.
02 / Texture
The holes are a feature
Pores, pits and tiny cracks are natural. They don't affect strength, and no two bases share the same pattern.
03 / Light
Warm bulbs make it glow
Under 2700K light, travertine turns honey-gold. Under cool white, it looks like a parking garage. Choose wisely.
The lineup
From pebble to pillar
All six, drawn to scale by height. Tap any one to jump to it.
Reverse comes in two sizes; the dashed outline shows the Large.
Cusco Table Lamp
Small lamp, big main-character energy.
A hand-polished yellow travertine base under a white opal glass dome. At just over seven inches, it fits on the narrow nightstand, the crowded bookshelf, the windowsill you never knew what to do with. The glass softens everything into a moon-ish glow, which is exactly what you want at 11 p.m. and exactly not what you want for reading tax forms.
Stone presence ●●○○○
Lives best on: small nightstands, shelves, a kid's room dresser
Light: one E26/E27 bulb (not included), in-line switch
Honest note: it's an ambiance lamp, not a reading lamp
Idris Wabi-Sabi Table Lamp
Two stones walk into a lamp. Only one of them glows.
A porous, travertine-textured base holds up a softly veined alabaster globe, so the light passes through real stone instead of a shade. Then it gets practical: a built-in LED that switches between three light colors, so it goes from bright and fresh to candle-warm without swapping a bulb. Under six inches wide, it's a quiet hero on a bedside table.
Stone presence ●●●○○
Lives best on: nightstands, entry consoles, a desk corner
Light: integrated LED with three color settings
Bonus: no bulb to buy, ever
Reverse Table Lamp
A 1970s Milan apartment, condensed into one object.
A cone of raw yellow travertine, left exactly as rough as nature made it, topped with a curved aluminium shade in matt black, white or bronze. The shade throws light down onto the stone, so every pore gets its moment. It's the most "design object" of the bunch: the one guests pick up, turn over, and ask about.
Stone presence ●●●●○
Lives best on: Small for bedside or cabinet tops; Large for a console or sideboard
Light: one G9 bulb (not included); warm 2700–3000K LED recommended
Heads up: it's real stone, 7.1 lb (Small) to 12.1 lb (Large). Lift from the base.
Rough stone. Soft light.
That's the whole trick. Every lamp below pairs raw travertine with a linen drum, and the contrast is what makes a room feel finished.
Creed Travertine Table Lamp
Wears stone like a linen suit.
A soft, pillared travertine base, a few warm brass details, and a textured linen drum on top. Creed is the classic table lamp silhouette made in a much more interesting material. If you want travertine but your room leans traditional or transitional, start here. It's the easiest one to slot into almost any home.
Stone presence ●●●○○
Lives best on: living room side tables, bedside, entry consoles
Light: one E26/E27 bulb (not included), in-line switch
Pair it with: walnut, cream bouclé, and a stack of books you're definitely going to read
Witten Travertine Table Lamp
Looks like it was excavated. In the best way.
This is travertine with the volume turned all the way up. The vase-shaped base is carved from genuine travertine with deep, dramatic pitting, the kind that makes people lean in. A tailored linen drum keeps things calm on top. If you've been saying "I want something that looks like it came from a gallery," Witten is the answer.
Stone presence ●●●●●
Lives best on: reading nooks, entry consoles, big side tables
Light: one E26/E27 bulb (not included), in-line switch
Honest note: every Witten's pitting is different. That's the point.
Booker Travertine Cylinder Table Lamp
A tiny Roman column for your sofa table.
The tallest of the six: a solid travertine cylinder with classic vertical fluting, keeping all of the stone's natural pores. Fluting catches light and shadow in stripes, so even when the lamp is off, it's doing something. At nearly 27 inches, Booker has the height to stand up next to a sofa or a tall bed without looking shy.
Stone presence ●●●●○
Lives best on: end tables, sofa consoles, beside a tall headboard
Light: one E26/E27 bulb (not included), in-line switch
Style match: Japandi, coastal, transitional

Styling, the short version
Four rules for travertine lamps
Go warm or go home. Use a 2700K bulb. Travertine is a warm stone, and cool light flattens it into gray.
Rough next to smooth. Put it beside something sleek: lacquer, glass, polished wood. The contrast does the decorating.
Give it breathing room. A textured lamp surrounded by twelve small objects just looks like clutter. Two things beside it, max.
Mix the family. A tall Booker in the living room and a little Cusco in the bedroom read as "considered," not "matching set."
Living with real stone
Dust the stone with a dry cloth and the linen shade with a soft brush. Skip water and sprays, since travertine is porous and drinks moisture. A felt pad under heavier bases protects delicate wood. All six are plug-in lamps for dry indoor rooms, so keep them out of bathrooms and off the porch.
Picky about your stone? Good.
Custom Stone Request (Pre-Shipment Confirmation): If you have a preference for your travertine base (for example, more pronounced pitting or a cleaner, calmer surface), email our customer support team before placing your order or right after checkout. Once your order is processed, our team can select and photograph the available bases for your approval before dispatch.
Questions people actually ask
Are the holes in the stone a defect?
No. Pores, pits and small surface cracks are natural to travertine and don't affect durability. The amount varies from piece to piece, so your lamp will be subtly different from the photos.
Do these lamps need an electrician?
No. All six plug into a regular outlet. Cusco, Creed, Witten, Booker and Reverse have a 59″ (150 cm) cord with an in-line switch, and you choose your plug type (US, UK, EU or AU) at checkout.
Which ones come with a bulb?
Only Idris, because its LED is built in. Cusco, Creed, Witten and Booker take one E26/E27 bulb, and Reverse takes a G9. For all of them, a warm-white 2700K LED looks best on the stone.
Which one is bright enough to read by?
The linen-drum lamps (Creed, Witten, Booker) give the most usable light for reading next to a chair or bed. Cusco and Idris are ambient lamps: lovely glow, not homework light.
